RWY 18L/36R Rehabilitation Project

Runway 18L/36R plays a vital role in DFW’s operations, managing approximately 50% of daily departures on
the west side of the airfield. Constructed in 1974, the 13,401-foot runway has supported growth for more than
half a century and now requires rehabilitation. The project will extend the critical infrastructure’s structural life,
enhance current and future performance and improve operational and maintenance cost efficiencies.
Project Details
The Runway 18L/36R Rehabilitation Project
includes, but is not limited to:
- Pavement rehabilitation with an asphalt overlay
- Shoulder and blast pad pavement reconstruction
- Northwest holding pads rehabilitation
- New electrical infrastructure
- Lighting and signage rehabilitation
- Drainage improvements
Project Schedule
DFW will implement a project timeline that
will minimize disruption to both airfield
operations and neighboring communities.
By phasing the work, the runway will remain
operational for as long as possible,
reducing the overall operational impacts
during peak travel periods. A full runway
closure is scheduled for late Summer 2026
through Spring 2027.
